GenTle provides functionality for data searching. You can search for persons and event at this time, but search for another kind of data will follow. All search functionality has one entry point -- Find dialog. You can execute this dialog from menu, tool-bar or pressing Ctrl-F. You can find Find Person and Find Event tabs on this dialog.
To search for persons, select Find Person tab on Find dialog. You can enter some data to be searched for. You can specify where to search in (visible, invisible persons or both) and you can specify mode of search. Following modes are defined:
Exact mode: all data you specified is taken as it is. For instance, if you specify Jan for name, only persons with name Jan will match.
Substring mode: all data you specified is considered as substrings. For instance, if you specify Jan for name, persons with names like Jan, Jane, Jana, Jojan, Bojane, etc. will math.
If you specify no search data, all persons will match. This is a way how you can search for all persons.
Pressing Search button on Find dialog will start the search. If there are any person that match search condition, they will appear in Results tree-view. You can select any person in this tree-view and press Edit button to edit the person.
Any change of person's data done via Edit button will not be visible in the Result tree-view since this would be confusing for the user. In any case, data change will take effect on canvas view and in data structures, i.e. this is usual and legal way how to edit data. |
You can see other buttons, like Go To or View, on Find Person panel. These buttons are dummy at this time, but their functionality will be implemented in the future. |
